Important Note

The CEA assay is not recommended as a screening test for cancer, but rather as an aid in management of cancer patients. Serial testing for patients CEA assay values should be used in conjunction with other methods used for monitoring cancer.

Do not interpret levels of CEA as absolute evidence of the presence or the absence of malignant disease.

CEA antigen levels in a given specimen determined with assays from different manufacturers can vary and cannot be used interchangeably.
