Specimen Collection Instructions
FOR UMMC ONLY: If specimen is received in the Laboratory unspun > 2 hours post collection the specimen will be rejected for analysis.
FOR ALL OTHER FACILITIES: If specimen is received in the Laboratory unspun > 4 hours post collection the specimen will be rejected for analysis for K (potassium) and GLU (glucose).
Specimen Handling Instructions
Inpatient Collection: Deliver to the Laboratory
Outpatient Collection: Centrifuge specimen before transport to the Laboratory. Once spun, it is advisable to transport specimen in original collection tube to ensure specimen integrity.
Specimen Volume:
1.0 mL
STAT Turn-around Time:
1 hour from specimen arrival in the laboratory
Routine Turn-around Time:
Inpatients: 4 hours from specimen arrival in the Laboratory
Outpatients: 24 hours from specimen arrival in the Laboratory
