SPECIMEN COLLECTION REQUIREMENTS
Collection Container: ·   Endocervical, vaginal, throat, and rectal swab specimens are collected with the cobas® PCR Female Swab Sample Kit.                                            
 • Urethral samples should be collected with a smaller urethral swab and then placed into the cobas® PCR media
• first catch urine should be collected in a sterile container or poured into a cobas® PCR Urine Sample Kit
Specimen: Endocervical, vaginal, throat, Urethral, and rectal swab specimens or first catch urine transferred to Cobas media within 24 hours
Collection Notes: Roche swab or urine, collection kit. For urine, first morning urine is preferred. 
Transport Temperature: All swabs can be transported in a cobas® PCR media tube and urine can be transported in the sterile container or a cobas PCR media tube at 2-30oC
Also Acceptable: First morning urine in sterile container.

Stability: All swabs and urine samples are good for up to 12 months at  2-30°C once the specimens have been stabilized in cobas® PCR media.

Notes: For female endocervical, vaginal, male urethral, urine (first morning preferred), rectal and pharyngeal swabs only. This test is not approved for use on children under the age of 16 years. For this population, please submit routine bacterial culture swab for GC Screen, test code 0551 and swab in M4RT for chlamydia culture, test code 9196.

*** Note: improperly submitted specimens (i.e. samples containing 2 swabs) will be rejected. Please refer to the Specimen Collection instructions in the Downloads section of this manual. ***
