Specimen Handling Instructions
Transport Specimen ambient. Frozen specimens are not acceptable.
Specimen Volume
10.0 mL Lavender or Pink top tube
Gently invert the tube 8 to 10 times immediately after collection to ensure proper mixing of blood and anticoagulant.
STAT Turn-around Time
1 hour from specimen arrival in the laboratory.
Note: Turn-around time may be longer if patient has antibodies present.
Routine Turn-around Time
Inpatients: 4 hours from specimen arrival in the laboratory
Outpatients: 24 hours from specimen arrival in the laboratory
Note: Turn-around time may be longer if patient has antibodies present.
