Swab samples collected from herpetic cutaneous and mucocutaneous lesions and placed in one of the following accepted transport media:

 

BD UVT, Remel M4, Remel M4RT, Remel M5, Remel M6, or UTM  

Specimen Handling Instructions

Do not use calcium alginate swabs, as they may contain substances that inhibit PCR testing.

 

Specimen should remain refrigerated at 2-8°C for storage and transport. Stable up to 7 days refrigerated at 2-8°C.
